Wexford Rural Bus

Wexford Rural Bus provides local service for local people by local people.

How were the services identified?

Our transport services were set up to meet the needs of the community. Initially the routes were identified by the local community.
These routes have been enhanced and further developed through discussion and consultation.
As we are a community based programme our routes are shaped by the users.

What services are provided?

• We currently provide weekly services from various areas within the community to urban centres such as Enniscorthy, New Ross, Waterford and Wexford.
• The tuesday service to New Ross is linked to the Health Centre for clinic appointments.
• The Wednesday service to Wexford is linked to Wexford General Hospital for clinic appointments (dermatology and diabetic).
• This means that the Health Centre in New Ross and the clinics in Wexford General Hospital can arrange your appointments to suit our service timetable.
• We also provide services to five local Primary Schools (St. Leonards, Ballycullane, Ballyhack, Ramsgrange and Duncannon) on a daily basis.

Where do I get the bus?

Our weekly routes are provided on a semi flexible basis.
Timetables are available for these routes and the bus stops are identified on them.
However, should you require a door-to-door pick-up that requires some deviation from the route, this may be arranged in advance either by phoning the service operator, whose contact details are on the timetables, or by phoning Mary B at the Rural Transport Programme (RTP) directly on 051-389418.

How do I use these services?

Each service has designated stops and can be hailed along the route.
However it is advisable to pre-book for parties of 6 or more, or for deviations from the normal route.
All our services accept free travel passes, under 5s travel free and there is a standard fare of €3 return for children and students.
Other fares vary between €5 and €8 for a return journey, depending on the destination.

Who uses the services and why?

Our passengers come from all walks of life - young people, children and adults, male and female.
These peopole use the RTP services for many reasons - to get to school, visit friends, go to town, attend health appointments, visit people in hospital, get to work, go to the bank - the list is endless.
What the RTP does for these people is to offer them an alternative, dependable, affordable and flexible means of transport.

In order for our services to be a success we need your input.
If you are not happy with the service we would like you to tell us.
If you are happy we would like you to tell everybody else.
